1. I made payments on a joint account and now I’m filing separately (single). How do I request that the payments on the joint account be transferred to my individual account?
Fill out a Request for Allocation of Payment Form. Both parties on the joint account will need to sign the form. Please contact RITA to obtain this form.
2. I can’t pay the full balance owed at the time my return is due. Should I still file my return?
Yes. You should file your return by the due date whether or not you are able to
pay the entire amount of tax
due. You will receive a bill for the unpaid taxes
which may also include penalty, interest, or late charge
assessments.
3. Can I request payment plan?
Yes. If your account reflects amounts due of $250.00 or more, you may request a payment plan. The balances must represent filed balances (no estimates). The plan can be arranged by calling 1-800-860-7482 ext. 5004 or locally 440-526-0900 ext. 5004.
4. I need to make a payment. Where on your website are payment forms or vouchers?
RITA does not have payment forms or vouchers. RITA requests that you mail your payment (indicating the primary account holder’s social security number on the payment) along with any instructions on how the payment is to be applied to the following address: Regional Income Tax Agency, P.O. Box 6600, Cleveland, OH 44101-2004. Please note that payments can also be made electronically utilizing our E-Payment feature on our website. E-Payments are fast, FREE, and secure.
5. I paid local taxes to a non-RITA city. How do I report those tax payments on the RITA Form 37 and do I need to attach a copy of the other city(ies) returns to receive credit?
Refer to the instructions for RITA Form 37 (Schedule J) and attach a copy of the returns that you filed with all other non-RITA cities reported on RITA Form 37, Schedule J.
6. I made a payment and it cleared my bank account, but RITA doesn’t reflect that payment on my RITA account. How do I validate that RITA received my payment and cashed my check?
Please contact RITA before mailing a legible copy of the front and back of your canceled check.
7. What are the types of payments do you accept?
RITA accepts checks, money orders, and credit / debit cards. An automatic debit to your checking or saving account is also available on line at www.ritaohio.com
8. How can I make a payment?
You can make your payment by mail, by phone through our automated IVR system, or in person. RITA representatives are also available 8:00 am to 5:00 pm to take your payment by telephone. E-Payments can be made on line at www.ritaohio.com
9. Does RITA accept credit card payments on overdue tax liabilities?
Yes. RITA will accept Visa, MasterCard, Discover, and Bank Cards with the Visa or MasterCard logo for unpaid tax liabilities. Contact RITA at 1-800-860-7482 or locally at 440-526-0900.
10. I failed to include my payment with my return or estimate tax form. Where should I send my payment and what do I need to include?

11. How long does it take a payment to be applied to my account?
It takes 3 to 5 business days for a payment to process.
12. I am on a payment plan and cannot make my payment on time, what should I do?
It is important that you contact your collector. The collector’s name and extension can be found on your payment plan bill.
13. I am on a payment plan and my due date is the 15th of the month. What is the grace period?
There is not a grace period. Make sure your mail your payment a few days before your due date.
14. I have a small claims complaint. How can I make my payment?
This is a legal matter so it is
important to contact the Legal Department at 1-800-860-7482 ext. 5005 or locally
at 440-526-0900 ext. 5005 before sending in your payment. All legal
payments should be sent to RITA PO Box 470537 Broadview Heights, Ohio 44147-0537
attention Legal Department. The court costs must be added to the balance due.
Payment in full must be received prior to your hearing date in order for the
case to be dismissed.
